This 9 Days Rwanda gorilla trekking and Mount Nyiragongo Hiking package is designed for those who are interested in hiking mount Nyiragongo and tracking the primates in Rwanda.

Day 1: arrival and kigali city tour

Upon arrival at Kigali airport, the guide will brief you about your 9 day experience but mainly your 1^st and 2^nd days. After thee briefing, you will be transferred to Kigali; Rwandas capital for a city trip. You will visit the gisozi genocide memorial, kigali art gallery, the convention center and imema art center.

En route lunch will be served from one of the restaurants in the city. After your trip, your guide will lead you to your hotel where you will be staying which will provide full board meals.

Day 2: kayaking and sport fishing on lake kivu

Wake up early, have your breakfast and prepare for your journey to lake kivu. Your guide will be ready waiting for you when you are done with the preparations. The journey to the lake will take around two hours and along the way you will see the different city scapes and land scapes.

Upon arrival, you will be given a guide to lead you through the kayaking activity. Spend a few hours, paddling the clear blue waters of the lake, exploring the countless inlets and bays, soaking up the spectacular scenery, meeting local fishermen, visiting hot springs and keeping an eye out for local wildlife such as long-tailed cormorants, flocks of pelicans.

After kayaking, you will return to the shore for lunch and have your sport fishing afterwards. The lake guides will lead you into this activity.

You will have snacks packed for you from the lodge that you will have after this activity.

Your driver will drive you back to the hotel where dinner will be served.

Day 3: gorilla trekking and Iby’iwacu cultural village visit

Wake up early, have your breakfast, and prepare to check out of the hotel. Your journey to volcanoes park will take about 3 hours depending on the traffic flow.

All trackers must be at the park office in time for the briefing which is led by the park Guide. Tracking can take between 2 to 6 hours depending on which family you are assigned and group fitness. However, the one hour spent with the gorilla family is a lifetime experience which you will never forget. Mountain Gorillas can be very playful and curious especially if they see something unfamiliar. While with the gorilla family, it’s important to listen to instructions from your guide. Always remain calm and never make sudden movements. After your one hour with the gorilla group, return back to the starting point where you will meet our guide who will be waiting up with your lunch.

Late in the afternoon, you will head out for a visit to the Iby’iwacu cultural village in Musanze Now known as the Gorilla Guardians Village, the Centre started as a place where former poachers would showcase their products. The government of Rwanda revamped the place and rebuilt it to become a modern cultural Centre that competes with the best in East Africa. There are tribes like the Batwa performing cultural dances and songs. You can also participate by putting on local robes, entering some of the traditional huts and dancing with the troupe.

After this activity, your guide will drive you to your hotel where you will be spending the night. The lodge will provide dinner for you.

Day 4: transfer to Congo

The transfer will begin in the mid morning so you wont need to wake up very early. Your guide will be ready to pick you from the hotel and make sure you have had your breakfast by the time he arrives. He will take you to the border where you will cross to Congo. Have all the necessary immigration documents near to avoid any inconveniences

Once in Congo, you will be driven straight to your lodge and this is where your lunch meals will be served.

Check in, relax and prepare to set off for hiking the next day.

Day 5: ascend mountain nyiragongo

On this day you will have breakfast early morning, then you guide will take you to the briefing at the hiking departure point at Kibati patrol post. The hiking experience usually starts at 10:00AM and will take approximately 4-6 hours depending on the speed and strength of the participants in order to reach the summit of the volcano.

The mountain has 5 climbing sections and after the fourth, any slow climber will be left behind so be sure to be fit and fast enough to reach the summit on time

You will then enjoy the views of the summit, different vegetation covers and the glowing lava lake.

Your chef will prepare dinner for you.

Accommodation will be at the Summit shelter Camp.

Day 6: descend the summit

In the morning, after you have had your breakfast, you will descend back from the Volcano and this is much easier than ascending. Your guide will be waiting up to transfer you to your lodge where you will spend the night.

Day 7: sekwenkwe orpahange visit

In the afternoon, after your lunch break, you will have a unique opportunity of visiting the Senkwekwe Centre the only mountain gorilla orphanage in the world. These were rescued after their parents got killed by poachers and pet traders. The Centre helps rehabilitate and provide them with high quality care.

Dinner will be available at the lodge.

Day 8: birding experience

Virunga national park is an amazingly undiscovered bird watching destination in Africa with over 706 species can be spotted in the park including a total of 24 endemic species. Your driver hand you over to the birding guide that will show you different species like the Rwenzori Turaco, Francolinus nobilis among others.

Meals will be served at the lodge.

Day 9: transfer to kigali.

After your breakfast, yo u will check out of the lodge and start your journey back to kigali. There will be different stop overs for you to stretch and get refreshments.m

Once you reach kigali, lunch will be provided for you before you part with the guide.
