Detailed Itenerary for 6 days Nyiragongo and Mikeno Hike:

Day 1: Arrival to Kigali and Transfer to Gisenyi Rwanda
You start your 5 days tour with arrival at Kigali International Airport where you will be welcomed by a Climbing Nyiragongo representative. You will set off from Kigali to Gisenyi in Rwanda on the shores of Lake Kivu for overnight. During your journey, expect to experience beautiful sights of the Rwanda countryside and also bypass lakes, national parks and thousands of Rwanda hills. The journey to the border of Gisenyi will take around 3 hours.

Day 2: Transfer from the Grande Barriere (Gisenyi) to Kibumba tented Camp

On this day you will be at the border Grande Barriere (Gisenyi ) crossing by 12:15pm to check in with Virunga offices by 01:00pm. During this process in the tourism office you will be given your Gorilla and Volcano trek permits which must be presented at the start of each trek. After completing the check in you will be transferred to Mikeno. On arrival you will check in and take rest in preparation for the next day’s activity. The journey will take around three hours (3)  to reach the camp.

Day 3: Mikeno Hike

Wake up early in the morning and start on a thrilling hike to Mount Mikeno, one of the volcanoes in Virunga National Park. Accompanied by experienced guides, you will trek through lush rainforests and challenging terrains to reach the summit of Mount Mikeno. Enjoy breathtaking views along the way. After the hike, return to Mikeno Lodge for relaxation.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibati Ranger Post and Nyiragongo Volcano Hike

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Kibati Ranger Post where you will receive a briefing and have the opportunity to hire porters. Begin your ascend of Nyiragongo Volcano, which typically takes about 6 hours (six hours). The hike will take you through lava rocks, forested areas, and open spaces, offering magnificent views. Spend the night at the crater rim, where you can witness the spectacular sight of the large lava lake.

Day 5: Descend from Nyiragongo Volcano and Transfer to Goma

In the morning, descend from the volcano back to the Kibati Ranger Post. From there, you will be transferred to the city of Goma the biggeszt city in the eastern part of Democratic Republic of Congo. Take the opportunity to explore Goma and its surroundings, including Lake Kivu and overnight in Goma.

Day 6: Transfer to Kigali and Departure

After breakfast, you will be driven back to Kigali. Depending on your departure time, you may have the opportunity to explore Kigali or visit some of its attractions. Your driver/guide will then drop you off at the airport or your preferred location in Kigali. the journey will take approximately 4 hours.
